This weekend, while waiting for my bank account to balance, I decided to get a start on that Xion that houses my newest system. A friend of mine showed up with a whoooole bunch of beer, and in a slight haze I started on this
Just a free gift I got from being a ThinkGeek.com consumer whore.
This was supposed to be in a license plate cover for a car... after some toying around with my multi-meter... BAM front bezel mounted LED scrolling goodness
OH, I'm play testing a $10 camera that I got from a grocery store just to see if it had any image quality at all. I'm not too... well, I've not decided either way. Where I would complain that it takes questionable quality images, I must point out that I was in horrible lighting and taking pictures while moving... IF I stop to take intelligent pictures (standing still proper lighting and what not...) then they turn out better then expected on a $10 digital camera. Any way I digress...
This is the case that I ordered.
Sexy eh?
This is what I was shipped
shit happens... SO I went out and bought 2x 120mm LED Fans to replace the plain black ones in the front and back of the case.
it's looking better...
The next thing on my docket is pulling the blue LED's in the plastic face plate and replacing them with ultra brights going to cost me about $1.80
so as you can see, I'm still wanting a 140mm green LED fan... Or I'll post pics of me drilling four LED's out of a fan. Which would you want to see me do? Coming soon to a garage near you...
The lighting on the case is now real close to what I intended. I've decided to pull the side panel and make a new one (Probably going to order some plexi from A. C. Ryan) I'll be pitching the 140mm fan and replace it with two more green LED 120mm's (One over the processor if I don't buy a Zalman next week and one over the PCI's) The front panel and back exhaust have been replaced with green 120mm's. I pulled the scrolling LED panel and I'm re mounting it to look a bit cleaner and actually put it into a cover and not just cheaply glue it to a panel. OH! The Ram mods are in and if I were to go 64bit OS and drop 4G of pc6400 and two more Ram mods in, I can closely replicate the Matrix character vertical scroll... It's getting there but I've not quite nailed my goal... I'm also a bit surprised by my own lack of picture taking so I'll make an effort of trying to fix that. It's going to be noticeable the changes I've wrought.
It would be nice to see photos. I like looking at photos. Photos is the same as a thousand words. So speak with photos. Happy Modding to ya. and your photos.
heheh I hear you loud and clear ;D I think that might have something to do with my traffic being low... NO PICTURES?!? SCREW YOU THEN. I can agree with that... Who honestly wants to read MORE when you are on a site like this.
so I started buying for the Xion again... after I bought a bunch more swords while on vacation... shots of those two if you want :)
Just wait this thing is going to be annoyingly lit up
Handles for those "I dont want to touch the wet sanded paint job" moments
Because keyboards should be ridiculous too
and some green LED's for the processor
this is going to go into the alien fetus jar that will replace the acrylic case window... told you I had plans for that (sketches later pictures now)
oh and the fetus Jar will look like this only it will be part of the case window half in and half out of the case... and it will be better made
the guys putting this together for me will be putting in green led fans for me because I'm lazy.
that's it for now I'll get some pics of assembly when all those parts arrive
Outstanding start so far. I really like the color that you have chosen. I love the green and the lit up handles and things on that order are great. I'm keeping my eyes on this mod and that's no BS. Happy Modding to ya.
my next goal is to get the plexi, get everything assembled and get this case to a friend with a camera that doesn't suck at life. I've done what I can to do a comprehensive work log with out the work log part :\ I think for the most part it's self explanatory and if you were to get a similar case to work with it would be fairly easy to duplicate the work. Sorry for the less than step by step guide though folks, but I think the end result will be worth the confusion. TRUST ME when this thing is "done" I'll be taking enough pictures of it to write home about.
Sounds good to me. I really don't mind the hodge podge writing but I really like photos. They say a photo is worth a thousand words anyways. Happy Modding to ya.
OK, so I didn't end up going with that PSU... instead I picked up an OCZ Stealth X Stream 600W and that's where things got interesting.... (unfortunately I've been sick so I didn't get a chance to get pictures just yet)
Anyway here's the PSU and the fan that I put in it...
I also got my 8600 today... I'll probably be bringing my computer over to the place I'm temporarily staying to get some pictures done...
SO I think it's a little beyond time for an update :)
I'm still working on the little parts for the non window side of the case but I've got a pic of the window side mostly finished.
Pre-Window Fan
Post Window Fan
Now as you can see the stupid square holes have been completely filled by the fan which I'm still not sure the pictures do it's size full justice
A different angle on the original window...
Now then I'll be doing some of the case holes when I get home which will call for the "dust mask/painting mask" pictured and possibly some of the priming on the little parts... I'm not showing off the "little parts" until I'm 100% satisfied with how they are going.
OH! I just remembered how terrible the PPc's pic of the Deck keyboard is so...
BANG! this pic was taken at full brightness (the keyboard has a controler card built in with a function key that with the help of the up and down arrow keys control the brightness up to 8 levels including off so no more of that hitting scroll lock to turn the keyboard LED's on and off)
The Deck keyboards also come with an extra key that you can swap for any key on the board
I went with that for my function key
The other interesting thing about Deck is their warranty it says something to the effect of "You can mod this board in any way you see fit and as long as the soldering is clean and professional then it will all be covered for 5 years" they weren't kidding when they printed on the box "Enjoy, this is the last keyboard you will ever buy" which I wasn't sure if they meant if it broke they'd come kill me but hey, for a board this sleek I'll take the chance.
So there we go, a small update of thigns I've been working on in between endless hours of work and sleep/sick periods.
