So I was wondering if anyone from the community has played with Leopard OS yet. We are thinking of implementing it on a few of our resident Mac systems and I'm wondering if there is anything I should be fearful of. The kid that cares for the Mac during the AM shift tells me everything will be fine and that it is a wonderful OS. Me being a PC user I've seen so many OS launches go horribly awry that I'm just not convinced that almost $200 for 5 licenses is a good idea :\ Coming soon to a garage near you...
I've read about some big memory leaks they're "promising" to clean up. Also I don't know how well it networks but if you guys do a lot of online business, safari isn't up to par with ie and firefox. those are the two largest browsers so generally people don't even bother check compatability with safari. I've also heard that their email prog is a bit sketchy, and you can put outlook on there but here atleast it sounds even mroe sketchy on a mac os. I'm not sure which OS they are running here, I don't think it's the latest ones, but those are the things I've observed. hope that helps a bit.
If con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of progress?
yeah I'm not going to argue against getting a new OS 'round here, I just want a heads up to some issues so that if I notice something I have a route to try and clean up
if they have IE or firefox for the mac i'd go that route as thats the biggest things i've noticed, though to be fair, i'm slightly biased as I'm a web developer so thats the main area i pay attention to, lol

I can put firefox on there so I'm not too worried... and they are running VMWare so I still get windows for their e-mail ($50,000 exchange server... that was fun and didn't hurt our $30,000 operating budget in the least poor freaking IT department)
if they are current running the older osx i think its best to stick with it for a while
there isnt really anything "new" that most people will actually benefit from, its just stuff thats already existed except easier to access now
im not a mac guy and never will be(infact i steer away from them as much as possible) but i know from experience that osx isnt the most stable os ever built
it all depends on what its going to be used for

just general image editing in ridiculously hi-res imaging... I think the lowest resolution we toy with is like 1200DPI and plotting out full colour prints over 16x14. I dunno they make it seem so insane with the requirements those stupid things have to meet.
you could mostlikely do all of that on a windows machine just as good if not better
if all they are doing is image editing then its best to stick with what they currently have
the OS isnt going to change how their editing software works
i think they just want leopard because they think its the greatest thing since sliced bread
theres absolutely NO reason to switch over at this point
its like switching from xp to vista if all you want to do is make powerpoint presentations

my experience with mac users are they are far more biased then most PC users and for the most part are unwilling to use anything beyond what they want. Now that sounds almost as close minded as I'm calling them, but talk to a mac user, their general responses are, "I just want to use my mac"
mac has convinced them they're the best and they aren't willing to try anything else.

well it sucks for them because they are really missing on the fun
its funny seeing the look on a mac users face when you show them that your pc can do the same exact stuff their mac can do but only faster and cooler looking
and even funnier when you show them the cool BERYL effects of linux

I was messin with a few of the guys at work, I built a quad core for handling high quantity print jobs to a xerox 5000cp heheheh as a joke I threw the mac OS on it... or so they thought. flyakite.org had just the thing for me ;) They were ranting about how fantastic the new "mac" was running those print jobs then they found out that it was nothing more than a $800 PC
Beryls is outdated on the new nix, Ubuntu distro's have compiz fusion by default all you gotta do is set it up and your good to go. as for mac users meh it may not be that they've been convinced of anything so much as everyone has their own individual preferences, I would kinda like to get a mac just to mess around with.
