Post Subject: what can you do when your bored?
Posted on: Dec 28, 2006
well this isn't really a worklog but i'd like to see some of the projects you have all started when you had to much time on your hands.
mines kinda funny and i gotta think a one of a kind. Well i had an aquarium where i had a few hermit crabs and i was layin in my bed lookin at it one day thinking that this thing was just way to small.... so later that day i finished this...
now i didn't even bother get any dimensions, but i think it's roughly 2ftx2ftx6in
If con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of progress?
The above pic is what I do when bored. It's HO scale model railroading. I'm a member of a Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society and the Chapter has a traveling HO train layout that measures 65'x45' when setup into a U shape. We use Digital Command Control which allows 120 trains to operate independently from each other.
thats pretty sweet. hows it send the signals to each unique train, wireless? or does it have an id built into the train, kinda like an IP over a network?

It sends signals thru the rails, each loco has a decoder that is programmable by way of a computer or the command module. The decoder is basically a small computer that receives the signals from the handheld controller. It runs off of 12-14 volts DC. The signal is unique to each loco and can be changed to any number from 0-9999, so each loco address is based on the loco number under the cab windows. Most of us paint and decal our own locos and we use the actual numbers from the real locos on the rails that we see everyday. We try hard to make each of our loco's to look just like the prototype, just in miniature. The Chapter was featured in the Sept. 1994 issue of Model Railroading Magazine for it's layout.
It's just me, my wife and my mother (85yrs old). The kids are all grown and have their own families now. We have 6 grandchildren and 4 are here in town so they now come over and visit. It's been real nice having them come over. That's the reason that we moved back to Waseca, MN. The wife and I move away from here in 1993 when we got married. It was a long time but we did come back and it's been great so far. Even my ex-wife hasn't bothered us and she lives here also. If she starts up bothering us again I'm going to punch her in the nose. Happy Modding to ya.
