You flew all the missions of SP as Edison Trent and ended the Nomad threat to Sirius...or so you thought. Fifty years after what is now known as the First Nomad War, the Nomads are back with a vengeance. Humanity is evacuating the planets and bases of the Sirius Sector and withdrawn to the newly discovered Antares Sector.

>>The 2nd Nomad War<< brings unique challenges and opportunities to Freelancers and Clans. Gone are most of the bases and tradelanes in the Inner House systems. A few bold Freelancers continue to smuggle refugees past the Nomad Fleet. Opportunities arise in the buildup of infrastructure safely for the moment hidden behind an ancient alien Hypergate in the recently discoverd Antares Sector.

The Antares Mod brings Freelancer into a whole new dimension, with new systems, new factions and bases, including player designed and built custom bases and planets. A dynamic new commodity system updated with each release of Antares Mod Updates allows great opportunities for trading...and for piracy.

The equipment is totally interchangeable, and players can order new weapons designs. Ever wish you could arm a patriot with code guns and nomad weapons? Now you can. Modular design allows players to customize thier ships with unique powerplant, reactor, thruster, armor, scanner, and tractor beam designs.

The Antares Mod features dozens of new systems, an improved physics engine, myriad new modular equipment options and scores of new ship designs ranging from screaming fast Light Fighters to heavily armed Torpedo Bomber Very Heavy Fighters, some with multiple CD/T Launchers, all the way to player flyable trains, gunboats, and capitol ships.

While most of the players there are friendly to newcomers, once you are established you may be attacked at any time without provocation by pirates (or by police and navy if you are a pirate or a smuggler) and Nomads (Nomads are for the time being limited to the Sirius Sector and the Zeta Corridor linking Sirius to Antares)...all in good fun and in the interest of keeping the action lively ;)

HELP WANTED

Antares Mod Team
Needs code modders to help us develop the current Antares Mod update.
The Antares Mod is an evolving mod for Freelancer. Updates are normally done about every three months, with new bases which have been built by the players, planets that have been colonized by the players, and new weapon and equipment orders added to the growing universe of the Antares Mod.
The Mod Team decided to add several new star systems, populated with new races and factions, all with thier own unique weapons and equipment this update, and add in the Wingman Mod at the same time.
Somewhere in the massive effort, some peice of new code is not getting along with the rest.

Once we have the current update for the Antares Mod under control, we plan experiment with using FLMM 1.5, which should allow us to release Modular Mod Updates, with small changes added to the game as coding and testing allow.

We also plan to develop a new SPACE COMBAT FLIGHT SIMULATOR (untitled as yet) with joystick compatibility and realistic physics. One of the aspects of the Antares Mod that attracted me to it is that the physics are more realistic than vanilla Freelancer; however we seem to have reached the game's built in limitations.

Oh, its what we love doing. We are more of a hardware modding community, but we do love our games as well. On occasion, you will see a few game reviews, and we do lots of hardware reviews. We also love seeing new hardware mods, no matter how small.

i was waiting for the spokeman from bandai to come out holding the game case and spouting locations

i dont think i could get involved with a game of this caliber. good luck finding coders though. usually the gamers who have half a brain and dont want the game to end are you rbest bet. try asking current players if they can code they will have a much bigger "obligation" to the cause

Right, well that's pretty much how I got involved with the Antares Mod Team. I did just that last year, and we picked up a couple of dedicated players from V2 who knew how to code. Unfortuantly the rest of the player base either has no idea how to code or have too many RL commitments to take on a gaming commitment.
My job description on the other hand is PR guy, critic, test pilot and mud-stirrer. I've been offline for the last year due to, ah, domestic complications, but now that I've got my own computer again and internet im trying to learn how to hack code myself.
