So today I started thinking about adding a wiki to fusionmods. Usually I think these things are kinda retarded, lol. But since we have such a gigantic amount of information, it might be a really cool place for them. I know we have a large number of guides and people who'd love to post their knowledge with some quick ease.
Right now I'm looking into the software. I'm seeing how easily I can skin it to match the site, and how easy it'll be to limit posting abilities to members (just to avoid getting spammed).
What do you guys think about this? As long as content it appropriate, I'd have no problem seeing anything you guys could think of in there.
If I do setup the wikis, I think the first thing I'll do is parse through some of our guides and put them in the wikis to get us started.
I'd love some feedback on this idea If con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of progress?
i think it would be a great addition, and for surface users (those just scanning the web for an answer), suddenly this site would be a better target. outside users would have instant access to usable info, enticing them to stay on and find more worthless intriguing info and maybe even clicking a sponsor.
members of X amount of time or with your granted clearance can respond
makes sense aside from just spam, there should be a high level of integrity. i think here in these forums people see the level of respect for knowledge, so no one bullshits. if i dont know i read and learn if i do know i teach. in a wiki, its a little less emotionally attached, so there needs to be a filter to moderate who types and when. sounds like a lot more work for faceless, but in fruition, man would it be sweet. (that and a search engine)

yeah i think I'd just require membership because for the wiki i'd be using an opensource one that's already been designed. being open source, i'd hate to be the target of some app that crawls the web to spam just for spamming it, something you see with a lot of unprotected forums unfortunately.
I'm not to worried about real live people spamming or posting inappropriate stuff, it's just protecting it from the annymouse spammers out there.
but I'm glad this has gotten some good responses and I think I'm going to start looking over how to really integrate this into the site.
lol the search engine will be next. haha if i take any longer on that one i think you guys might come after me, lol

I love the idea of a Wiki dedicated to mod guides and whatnot. Its quite the new idea, and I don't think anyone else has done that yet. It would make us the goto site for new guys getting into modding, and that increases traffic, and that's always good.
I do agree with locking down the wiki, but if you required membership just to look at the wiki, it might discourage people, or create a whole ton of new members that never post, just lurk in the wiki.

I think I'd only require membership for posting. lol we've never really needed to hide information and I'd hate to come accross as a site that hordes information for members only :)
lol if i trusted the internet as a whole i don't even think I'd worry about locking down the posting feature

well i finally found what i needed to install a wiki. oh man, i found the motherload of unifying wikis too, it's pretty crazy. the hardest part will be merging the user databases. This wiki has over 200 tables in its database so it'll take some time to really go through how this thing work, but i think it'll be completly worth it.

im torn between "no comment" "how dare you" and "what,? why did i even say i think its a good idea... i meant its Almost As Good An Idea As A SEARCH ENGINE"

well the insanly initial stage is done. I've selected what looks like the best wiki engine (suprisingly there's a lot of them). This is the one that drives the official wikipedia.com site so I guess i shouldn't be suprised, thats the best.
One note about it though is, don't bother registering with it. I'm looking into how to merge the sites user database to it still, and this is soemthing that i feel is pretty important to it's existance.
Now it is based off a pretty solid system, but now that we have something real, I'd love some comments or ideas on it :)
Also if you want to start populating it, by all means, donlt let me hold you back, haha

yeah this will be something, as I get the time, I'm going to start really building it up. Right now it's completly open and I don't think it's a big deal. This site is always progressing. lol I have about 10 things I want to work on for the site too. so they never get done quickly. lol Everything does atleast get started though.

as a newbie here, and definitely a learner, you could not change a darn thing... keep the forums healthy, and i would never bitch. the wealth of knowledge available to me through this site is a gift enough.
on top of that, NEVER havei been active in a forum with this much

lol i've never even considered making this a pay site if that makes you feel better.
I think one thing I've always felt was important was to remember what I started this site for. I wanted to create a community for modders. With that said, I've been on a number of modding forums, and even helped moderate on a few. And the one thing that always really burned me was the mind set of the site owners who ever they were (and this wasn't usually a problem except on a select few), but I always wanted to see the community lead the site. I mean it only makes sense doesn't it?
lol I hope for this site to be able to evolve with the community.
The other aspect of the giveaways is because you guys keep this site going and I love being able to give back :)
Now our giveaways have grown a little more far and between, but I think they've really improved over time as well.
This site never had a business model and I don't intend to ever base it off one. I have looked at some ways to make it start generating enough revenue to cover itself, but even that isn't a concern right now.
All I can say is, enjoy, and keep the mods comin

You know, much as I loved this site, I never really though about how amazing it really is until Abusiv's post right above. Really. Faceless, you're awesome. Thanks so much for this site, and the wealth of information, the community, and the entertainement that it gives us. Thankyou!
