Vizo SleetDDR Ram Coolers Author: faceless105 -- Posted: 2008-07-03
Following our latest stories about cooling I want to bring another area into light. One often over looked area you will typically find is ram cooling. Ram doesn't have any moving parts so it's not very at risk for a failure, but you'll be hard pressed to find a serious gamer who hasn't taken the time to find a cooling solution for their ram. This is why I'm happy to be reviewing the Sleet DDR Ram Coolers by Vizo.
Out of the box, the Ram Coolers are pretty universal and will fit all DDR and SDRam. They're made of pure copper. This material is used in almost all CPU coolers at their cores and for heat pipes as it offers some of the best conductivity. This makes them especially good purchases for ram that didn't come with coolers or ram with very poor coolers.
Installation is very straight forward. Add the silicon strips across the insides of each cooler. Lay your ram on the silicon strip, than hinge the two sides of the cooler together. To assure they stay connected, you will use the two clamps to tighten the hold.
For our regular readers this might be repetitive but it's really something I can't stress enough. The cooler you keep your hardware the faster it'll run, and the longer it'll last. Now with stuff like this, case ventilation is important too, but this is a great place to start. This is especially true considering the large volume of ram most systems today demand.
Not it's time for the first hand experience. I walked you through installing so I'll jump right into the performance. We're putting this into a system that is in a warmer environment, so cooling becomes a real necessity. Under normal conditions we measured the ram heating up to 30.5 Celsius (or 87 Fahrenheit). After adding the coolers, we were able to lower the temperatures to 27.5 Celsius (or 81.5 Fahrenheit). This is a very significant decrease in temperature and will make for an improved hardware life.
I'd like to thank Vizo for giving me the opportunity to review their Sleet DDR Ram Cooler. It has a very easy installation that won't give you a long down time. The performance also speaks for itself. If you guys are in the market for ram coolers, I'd recommend checking out the Sleet DDR Ram Cooler.
If you guys have any questions or comments, I'd love to hear them :)
