Patriot Memory Viper series 4gb kit DDR2-1066Mhz
Author: Gh0sTly -- Posted: 2008-11-26
Good ram can be found anywhere, but you need quality ram to make a modder and overclocker happy, and today, Patriot Memory has done just that with their Viper series. Today, I will be reviewing a 4gb kit of this ram at PC2-8500(1066Mhz). Each stick is 2gb.

First thing I want to discuss is appearance. This ram looks great, from the black finish on the ramsinks, to the chrome "DDR2" and PATRIOT logos. The ramsinks are ribbed, and also have nice extruded heatsink fins that help pull the heat away from the ram and disperse it into the air. These ramsinks are also made of a Aluminum Copper composite that Patriot calls ACC technology.

Lets talk about the ram itself. This ram is 2gb per stick, at 1066Mhz, and with timings of 5-5-5-15 and a voltage of 2.1v. These sticks are fast enough to earn Vista 64's 5.9 rating(the highest Vista will go,) and this is without any ram overclocking.

Today we will be testing this ram's speeds, and the test rig we will be using is a Intel Core2 Quad Q6600, with a ASUS P5E motherboard, Windows Vista Ultimate x64, and the ram will be in Dual Channel mode. The program that we will use is Performance Test(version 6.1 x64.)

As you can see, they have a rather good top speed to them, with an average speed of about 51MB/sec for both read and write. This is quite fast, and quite the bang for your buck too.

In closing, If you are looking for new DDR2 ram, and are on a budget, this ram can be had for around $89, and its an excellent value for the speed. Its well rounded, the timings are nice, and with some work, it could easily be overclocked.

I would like to take this moment to thank Patriot Memory for letting me review this excellent ram, and I look forward to reviewing more of their products soon.
