Subject: DeathStarChris does it again
Posted By: faceless105Posted on: 2008-07-03

This shouldn't be to much of a suprise but DeathStarChris has done it again. Unfortunatly we can't show off a new rig or anything, but we can show off his latest win!!

Taking the win in the latest round of competitions over at ModShop.net, his rig CPU did it again. This shouldn't be any suprise since it's already made the cover of CPU Magazine.

The cover of CPU Magazine!!

This is a bit of an older post too with a number of shots previously released, but we love comin back to them, haha. As seems to be mostly tradition there's a really good chance that we'll be seeing this rig also take on Rig of the Month in MaximumPC Magazine, which would be well deserved.

I hope you guys enjoy the rest of the shots, they're all some pretty awesome eye candy.

This and the next are a couple closeups to enjoy

These last 3 are the exclusive pics that you've seen here first!

Congrats on your latest win DeathStarChris

Subject: Blizzard still have one game up their sleeves.
Posted By: cantstraferightPosted on: 2008-07-02

First they announce Starcraft 2 than Diablo 3 and now they are saying there's another gaming there working on.

I'm hoping for Warcaft 4. There is allways the chance this game could be a spin-off from warcraft, starcraft or diablo universes or something entirely new.

Subject: Concerto Gate Closed Beta Starts Today
Posted By: cantstraferightPosted on: 2008-07-01

If you have never heard of Concerto Gate I don't blame you, I just found out about it today.

Concerto Gate is a MMORPG from Square Enix, the creators of Final Fantasy. the game uses a mixture of turn-based and real-time gameplay much like the Final fantasy games but with some new twists added in.

One of the games more interesting features is its “terra generating” system where "This system constantly changes the topography of the game world. For example, players can dig in the ground to mine for minerals, and after digging for a while, small holes will eventually become giant ones. Forests can be demolished, and new mountains can be formed depending on interaction between players. Large-scale terrain changes will not occur in a day or two, but will be gradual. Players will most likely see changes over several weeks"

If you don't like Final Fantasy games this probably isn't for you but if your interested you can signup for the beta HERE any time after 5PM EST. There are only 5000 beta keys so if you want one its best not to wait around.

Subject: Deep Packet Inspection and You
Posted By: faceless105Posted on: 2008-07-01

Now this is something we've talked about a lot and it's soemthing that will probably start making the news more and more, though it might just be refferenced with other titles or practices because the name of this just sounds to technical to ever make a front page headline.

What is it? Deep Packet inspection is the practice of ISPs analyzing every packet of information you send. This is a pretty huge deal and has a large number of effects, none of them very promising to the individual.

To start this little bio, Deep Packet Inspection really presses the boundaries of illegal search and seizure. Anyone who's followed the FISA Bill, will know that AT&T helped the government setup a massive level of Deep Packet Inspections (I'll start referring to it as DPI from here on). This allowed the government to effectively monitor every bit of information you're sending, an extreme invasion of privacy if you ask me. They were able to avoid immediate direct lawsuites by stating that it wasn't being looked at by a human, and still needed a warrant to be looked at.. But thats a matter of opinion if you've followed a lot of that news.

Privacy is the biggest threat because of DPI. ISPs will commonly call it "Internet Shaping" or "Traffic Shaping". This is done already with simple practice such as bandiwdth limits. But with DPI it allows them to look at the type of traffic you're sending and then decide if it's wasting bandwidth. If you guys remember the big issues with Comcast, they were using this practice. They were using Deep Packet Inspection to analyze traffic, then if it was p2p traffic they were forging packets to make it look like both parties had requested the connection closed. This entire practice landed them a ton of bad press, especially after they said, "who cares" to the consumer.

The other threat related to privacy is one that Charter (A large ISP, but not nearly anything as large as Comcast) is experimenting with. Charter is using DPI to analyze traffic trends to sell to advertisers. So much for privacy. Now advertisers should be weary of DPI as well, because we've also seen examples where ISPs can analyze traffic to inject their own ads into web pages that were never intended to be there by the owners of different sites.

The big industries love DPI for everything it can offer. ISPs can throttle down traffic of who they'd call "Abusers". The RIAA/MPAA can catch people in the act of piracy much easier. Even the government loves it because it allows them to accues people of being a terrorist based on the web habbits (Sound familiar to anyone who remembers McCarthyism? is it that different then our reading habbits? haha).

Now this is something we're only coming into today because for the first time computers are becoming powerful enough to be able to analyze streaming traffic without signifigantly slowing it down. So whats this meen to us? Who knows, maybe it makes the great firewall of china a possible US solution. It definitely allows the government the ability to flex more control over the ISPs. I see it as the begining of whoring out the internet. If everything is allowed to be so tightly controlled and monitored, is it really that origional place that thrived to spark innovative creative ideas? Do you're homework on the p2p technologies that everyone wants so badly to destroy, BitTorrent in particular. It's been declared a brilliant technology with a number of uses.

So really the point of this article is to educate. In the future I'm sure you'll hear this term being thrown around, especially under net neutrality. When businesses try to sell it as something to help your searches, to catch terrorists, and to improve you're overall internet experience, just be aware that you're giving up you're complete internet privacy.

Subject: Microsoft's reason for releasing games on the pc l
Posted By: cantstraferightPosted on: 2008-07-01

Microsoft Europe's Peter Zetterberg recently said

"If we launch a game that is on 360 and PC simultaneously, we basically shoot ourselves in the foot by allowing the German market to choose to play the PC version – because they are more likely to buy that than spend their money on the Xbox 360."

Well now we know why it took 2 years for halo 2 to come out on the pc and why its going to be a long time before we see halo 3 on the pc. In my opinion Peter just shot himself in the foot.
